While I do in generally accept language change this one saddens me a bit because we are losing a useful distinction. Though, maybe it was never really known to many people.

Scheinbar vs. Anscheinend ; Offenbar vs. Offensichtlich self. Trying to nail the subtle differences down but do folks even make a distinction colloquially anyway?
Oh the adverb onslaught! Didn't even know the difference between scheinbar and anscheinend myself but they are actually quite different.
And I have probably used the wrong myself. Anscheinend is used to describe the assumption that something is like it seems to be, while scheinbar is used when something appears to be something but really isn't.

While most German teachers would tell you that there is a difference, the newest Duden tells us that they are the same. A funny anecdote from my Latin teacher: Mann und Frau machen das gleiche im Bett, aber nicht das selbe!
